Welcome from the Commanding Officer

Welcome to the USS Reliant!

The USS Reliant is an Excelsior-class starship based in Obsidian Fleet’s Task Force 47. The Reliant has been heavily modified to serve as a mobile base of operations for the 32nd Starfleet Corps of Engineers detachment, and is under the command of Captain Steve Wyman.

The year is 2394, and the Federation has enjoyed nearly two decades of peace, ushering in an unprecedented era of exploration and technological innovation. But there are always people and worlds in need of aid, and that is where the Reliant comes in.

Be it a new world being terraformed, or a colony ravaged by natural disaster, the Corps of Engineers stands ready to assist in any way possible. Rebuilding hospitals, setting up a spaceport, or even something as mundane as helping a freighter with a damaged warp nacelle - the Reliant and her crew are always willing to lend a hand.

There is no knowing where we will go with our missions - that is all up to the players. What they write will propel us forward, be it to success or defeat. It is our job to make sure that the ideals of Starfleet - exploring new worlds, seeking our new life and new civilizations, and to boldly go where nobody has gone before are kept alive.

On behalf of the entire crew, I welcome all our visitors to our website and hope you enjoy your visit to our humble site. If you are interested in being a member of our crew and joining us in our adventures, then please fill out one of our application forms, and the command staff will get back to you. We encourage all players, regardless of experience, to join us and share in our common love of Star Trek. Whether you grew up on the original series or you're a new fan, there's a place for you on the Reliant.

Please enjoy our website, enjoy reading our great mission posts and again… welcome!

After a successful survey on Obsidian Fleet Community Engagement, we have now spun up several Forum discussions as well as a Discord channel. We want YOUR feedback - everyone. COs, forward this on down to your players if you can.

We have setup several topics in the forums surrounding themes from the survey and/or other discussions. We want everyone's engagement and involvement - we're in this community together. Some of you may think we don't listen, but hopefully this process is showing you that we do.

So hop over to the Forums here http://forums.obsidianfleet.net/viewforum.php?f=110 and chime in where you feel comfortable. Let's try to focus on how to move forward, and let's be courteous and constructive in our replies.

If you want to have a side-bar discussion on Discord, check out the #engagement channel. We just want to make sure some of those discussion results end up back in the forums for all to see.

Get engaged - it's YOUR community, too!

» Roll Call Reminder

Posted on Wed May 24, 2017 @ 12:39pm by Captain Steven Wyman in Out of Character

Hello everyone,

Please remember to respond to the roll call. I've been in discussion with Marcus, so I know he's around. But so far I haven't gotten a response from anyone else.

I don't want to, but anyone I haven't heard from by Monday May 29 will be removed from the roster. So please respond quickly if you want to be a part of us rebuilding to the award winning sim we once were.

Posted on Thu Feb 2, 2017 @ 6:02pm by Captain Steven Wyman in Website Update

So we've been on the Reliant for a bit over a month now, but our website skin was still showing a Nova-class MSD up at the top. I was despairing a bit because the person who created the skin didn't respond to my request to create a version with an Excelsior MSD (as he had before, as the default skin uses an Intrepid MSD).

But yesterday I was on the Anodyne website (the makers of the Nova sim management system we use) to figure out why things weren't saving correctly and discovered that he created a variation of the skin with an Excelsior MSD for use by ships running in the TOS movie era!

"Well Hell - I don't need the whole skin, just the header image!" I thought, downloading it and yanking the header file from the zip. A few minutes putzing around in an online photo editor to replace the Federation insignia on the left with our trusty Corps of Engineers insignia and POOF - we're in business!

It's the small victories like this that keep me going. ;)

Lieutenant Junior Grade Fred Nau entered the Reliant's Engineering Room and looked around. " What a mess ! " He exclaimed. " Well, no time like the present.."

And so, Nau took mop and bucket and proceeded to wash the floors. Wash..wash..wash....scrub....scrub...scrub....

When he was finished, Nau looked around and…

"I swear... I know this the same bridge module as the Archimedes. But this ready room seems smaller." Steve was utterly perplexed as to where he was going to put his stuff. He hadn't acquired anything new in the last few months had he? Besides another daughter, anyway.
